Create a coupon code

Create and control coupon codes

Outcome: Build a coupon and understand its products, quantities, limits, and combinations.

Add a buyer-entered coupon

  1. Add or select a Coupon Code block in the form builder.
  2. Choose Manage Coupons.
  3. Start with Simple setup and a common goal, or open Advanced setup.
  4. Enter a name and one or more codes. Separate several new codes with commas or new lines.
  5. Define the qualifying purchase, reward, exclusions, schedule, limits, budget, and stacking rule.
  6. Read Review before saving, save the coupon, and test eligible and ineligible carts.

Coupon codes are buyer-entered. Use Run sales and automatic promotions when an offer should activate without a code.

Start from a common goal

Simple setup includes percentage or fixed amount off the whole order, selected-product discounts, fixed amount off each selected item, highest-priced-item savings, Buy X Get Y, spend-and-save, best-value quantity tiers, gift with purchase, bundles, and shipping discounts. Switch to Advanced setup to inspect or change the complete definition before saving.

Coupons can discount merchandise, shipping, or a payment-method surcharge in the same offer. A zero merchandise value is valid only when a shipping discount, surcharge waiver, or quantity-tier benefit remains.

Define qualification and reward separately

Choose whether any product, selected categories, selected products, or selected variants qualify. Optional exclusions remove matching lines from qualifying quantity and spend. If both minimum eligible quantity and minimum eligible purchase are set, the cart must meet both.

The reward can use the qualifying pool or a different category, product, or variant pool. Reward exclusions separately remove items from receiving merchandise savings. An item cannot be both included and excluded in the same pool.

Standard reward meanings are:

  • Discount the eligible items once: a percentage applies to eligible merchandise; a fixed value is one amount per order.
  • Fixed amount off each eligible item: the amount applies to every eligible unit and is capped at that unit's price.
  • Lowest-priced N or Highest-priced N: the selected number of eligible units receive the reward; equal prices use stable product and variant identity.
  • Buy X Get Y: complete groups reward the selected Y units and can repeat when enabled.
  • Buy more, save more: at most twelve unique quantity tiers; one best-value tier applies, with the higher threshold winning an equal-savings tie.

Configure gifts and bundles

A gift must target a distinct category, product, or variant, must be 100% off, and must already be in the cart. A repeating gift also needs a positive quantity or spend requirement.

A bundle has two through twenty separate product groups or two through twenty separate variant groups. One unit can satisfy only one requirement. Discount either the completed component units or a separate product or variant reward already in the cart. A fixed reward can apply once per completed bundle or once per rewarded unit. Only complete, non-overlapping bundle applications count.

EZFormz never inserts gift or separate bundle reward items into the cart. Gift and bundle coupons are always exclusive.

Set schedules and limits

Advanced limits default to Unlimited. Turn on a limit only when needed:

  • Total redemptions counts active orders, not discounted units.
  • Redemptions per customer uses the buyer email's protected customer key.
  • Customer's first non-cancelled order checks prior active orders on that form.
  • Maximum merchandise discount per order caps item savings but not the shipping or surcharge benefit.
  • Total promotion budget includes item savings, shipping savings, and waived payment surcharges.

Blank start means immediately; blank end means no expiration. Times use the timezone shown in the editor. Campaign / code group is a reporting and search label, not another eligibility rule.

Control combinations

With Allow Multiple Coupon Codes off, applying a new code replaces the current code. With it on, checkout accepts up to five codes.

Can combine allows an eligible code to stack with other stackable codes and stackable automatic offers. Exclusive prevents combination with another coupon, advanced automatic offer, or seller manual discount. Gift and bundle coupons are always exclusive. A form-wide sale can separately disallow coupons and advanced offers while its benefit applies.

Merchandise discount across all applied promotions is capped at the merchandise subtotal. Checkout still evaluates shipping discounts and surcharge waivers from eligible promotions.

Understand redemption lifecycle

At buyer checkout, the final server calculation rechecks active state, schedule, total and customer limits, first-order status, item eligibility, stacking, caps, and remaining budget. It reserves the redemption and benefit budget in the same transaction as the order and stock deduction.

Cancelling or deleting an active order releases its exact active buyer redemption. Removing a buyer coupon during an order edit also releases that code's use and budget. Repricing an edited order adjusts the same redemption's budget without counting another use. Un-cancelling requires confirmation and must successfully re-reserve the exact promotion; a newly created coupon with the same text code is not treated as the deleted original. Refunds and returns do not independently release a redemption.

Existing orders keep their saved promotion snapshot. Editing, pausing, or deleting the current coupon does not retroactively rewrite the original order's discount.

Know the seller order-edit override

When a seller applies a saved coupon to an existing order, the current order editor deliberately bypasses the coupon's paused or active status, dates, total-use limit, customer limit, first-order rule, and total budget. It does not create a public redemption. The order records the discount as seller-applied.

Product eligibility, discount math, form-wide sale policy, and exclusivity still apply. A seller may also add a one-off manual fixed or percent discount. Orders allow up to five editable coupons or manual discounts; frozen automatic-sale snapshots do not count toward that limit and cannot be removed from this editor.

Change promotion targets safely

A product or variant referenced by a saved coupon cannot be deleted by itself, even when the coupon is paused, scheduled, or ended. Update or remove the target first, or remove both in the same Form Builder save. This prevents a saved definition from silently pointing at a different or missing catalog item.
